Get Steady continues to blend their funk sound with the energy of a rock concert in their upcoming original releases. Since 2012, these guys have been entertaining the Maryland music scene with their trumpet, trombone, and guitar-led groove rock arrangements. They have been featured at Light City Baltimore; HONfest; Baltimore Pride; extended summer concerts in Frederick, White Marsh, Laurel, and the Maryland Science Center; and packed countless shows at venues like the Ottobar and 8x10 in Baltimore. Now, after adding a trombone player to the lineup, Get Steady is showcasing fresh arrangements that are sure to excite and inspire awaiting audiences.
A music teacher by day and front man by night, Alex Appelbaum provides lead vocals and electric guitar for the group. A soulful baritone with a "laser-like" falsetto, Alex exercises his wide range to create intricate melodies that carefully and craftily compliment the lyrical content. His guitar work ranges from funky to flashy - with a raw, improvised feel tailored specifically for each piece and audience.
Those beautiful countermelodies and triumphant lead lines you hear are provided by Logan Goodspeed on the trumpet. The group makes an effort to feature his unique tone in an interesting and unexpected way in each of their arrangements. A recent addition, trombonist Ben Constantinides has upgraded our horn section into an actual section. He skillfully arranges all horn parts and provides stunning vocal work. Behind the drums, Jon Constantinides serves up busy, intricate grooves that help the band create a lush, full, and live experience with just five members.
Bassist Evan Ponter assists Alex in writing lyrics, arranging instruments, and conceptualizing each song. In this project, the duo is challenging themselves to break free from rhyming rules and typical song structures. They are constantly incorporating many different genres into their groove-based rhythms, rock edginess, and soulful singing. Their original music has a common theme of confronting uncertainty, escaping turbulence, and recovering from trauma carefully woven into each lyric. It's all about getting back on your feet, taking the next step, and keeping your head up. Positive energy is such a powerful healer and the band strives to pay it forward to their listeners.
This energy is being channeled into new original music and a focus to enhance previous arrangements in preparation for upcoming gigs. This year will feature plenty of opportunities for audiences to Get Steady as the band continues to book performance after performance.
